Setting the precendent for the day, WilliamsburgTC coach, Lauren Laroche, won the Norway Run (1.7 mile) in a time of 9:40!

Then, for the Greta’s Half Marathon, the Williamsburg Track Club team put on a clinic. Megan Foster, in her brand new WilliamsburgTC gear, rocked a 1:25:19. Carl Fudge ran a personal best of 1:30:14, which is a 6:54 pace. Neal Post, who is getting back into the swing of things, threw down a 1:30:16. Norbert Kuls used the race as a test for the NYC Marathon, and he ran on pace for a 1:41:34. Carine Sudres ran an evenly paced 1:48:02 in preparation for a fall marathon.

All-in-all, a stellar day for WilliamsburgTC as a team!

Members of our WilliamsburgTC Training Club, ran well also:

Andrea Kent: 1:37:03

Nina Parks: 1:43:20

Janine Smith: 1:43:36

You ever notice when a coworker returns from vacation and they look so tan and rejuvenated. Or better yet, when you, yourself, return from a restful week reading on the beach, and you look around on your first day back at work, and you almost feel guilty for feeling so rested. Almost as if it is inhuman to feel so recharged. And then just a few days later you are back to normal, looking as ragged and worn as everyone around you. It is true, the city that never sleeps is full of people that never sleep. It’s tough. And as marathon season approaches, one of the smartest things you can do to prepare for race day is to rejuvenate your body and mind by getting more ZZZ’s. Because let’s face it, you could head to the starting line with all the mileage and speedwork in your legs and flop because body is exhausted from life. How much sleep should you be getting? Here is a good rule of thumb offered by Dr. Noakes, from his book, “The Lore of Running”

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Although the amount of time that people sleep can vary quite remarkably, with some sleeping as little as 4 hours per night, the average person sleeps between 7 and 8 hours per night. With harder training, the amount of time spent sleeping definitely increases.

Many runners get too little sleep because they fail to allow for the time that running takes out of their day. If you are running 2 hours per day and sleeping an extra hour every night, then you have “lost” 3 hours per day, and whatever you would normally do during that time must give way. In others words, you need to budget three hours per day for running.

As Mike Rustin put it, these are tough days. Every year that you try to do better requires harder work, generally, and harder workouts, in particular. To run faster, stronger, and with less fatigue on race day, you must train harder. There are no miracles in marathons. The fitter you become in August, September and October will determine how well you perform in your race. And you have all put tremendous work in, on the track and in Central Park. On behalf of Jeremy and Lauren, please know that we are so grateful and proud of your effort, coming off this hard week. Get your rest in, get a massage, and stay focused in the small things that have brought you to this big point in your training.

Stay positive in these upcoming workouts, and get each other through. Your incredible cohesiveness and group energy is what has gotten us all this far, and we all need it now, more than ever.

We are behind you, every step.
